The Broncos have selected Syracuse P Riley Dixon with the 228th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.  Let’s take closer look at Dixon and how he fits on the Broncos roster.

With the final pick for the Broncos in the 2016 NFL Draft(barring trade), the Broncos have selected… A punter… To be specific, they selected P Riley Dixon from Syracuse.

SCOUTING REPORT:

PROS

Was a Ray Guy award finalist in 2015.

CONS

Doesn’t handle kick off duties.

HOW HE FITS:  He will be Britton Colquitt’s competition in camp.  Although Colquitt was clutch in the postseason, his numbers have been in a  decline in recent years.  Combined with a hefty salary of 3.25 million for 2016. It would be very convenient for the Broncos to just Colquitt to take a pay cut, but it’s never that simple. This gives them a young leg to compete and possibly, overtake Colquitt for the Broncos punting duties.  That’s about all I can say for this pick, right now. We’ll see how it plays out in camp, but there’s no doubt about it, Colquitt isn’t guaranteed his job for 2016.
