The safety position has been in flux since David Bruton and Omar Bolden left for the Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears, respectively. Darian Stewart is an UFA (unrestricted free agent) in 2017, which makes the safety position a priority in the NFL Draft. Matt Miller, of Bleacher Report, a bright draft guru to follow on a draft night has the Broncos selecting safety, Karl Joseph out of West Virginia.

Broncos’ fans should be excited to have the likes of Karl Joseph on the roster. Joseph is a violent striker at the position who fares well as a multi faceted safety. The talent to cover and explode a ball carrier will remind people of Stewart; however, Earl Thomas is his highest ceiling. Joseph plays more explosive than Stewart and at the level of TJ Ward.

Bradley Roby was added to an elite secondary in 2014 and Shane Ray in 2015 to a filled pass rush position. Karl Joseph to the Broncos would parallel that of Roby as the team could draft Joseph at the 31st pick. Joseph sustained a season ending knee injury in 2015, but appears to have been moving up into the late first round. The knee appears to be fine.
