Seventh Round 253rd Pick: Nelson Spruce

That brings us to the local kid from Folsom Field down in Boulder, Colorado, Nelson Spruce. Broncos could certainly be in the market for Max McCaffrey if the franchise chose to hit that market. The Broncos do not shy away from picking the local talent like Kapri Bibbs and Shaquille Barrett giving them a shot and it helps they are talented as well.

Spruce has great route running skills and soft hands that could make him a quarterback’s favorite target. The quickness is not alarming, but has game speed once it is time for kickoff starts. Athletic traits are not there like the big receivers, but the possession receivers are still of value on an NFL roster. Spruce given more reps could be fighting for an excellent slot receiver role in the NFL. The quickest way for Spruce to make a name for himself could be as a run blocking wide receiver.

Denver Broncos could have Spruce as an undrafted free agent as well, but with Spruce’s uncanny ability to get open and catch anything, it may be difficult to pass up. If drafted, Spruce would be the fourth local college athlete to be on the roster.
