The Denver Broncos have a Colin Kaepernick deal done.

That is the news that we have been hearing for the last few days. The big issue is this weird $4.9 million figure that I am sure has something to do with Kaep space (I couldn’t help myself). Being less than a scholar on salary cap numbers, but not wanting to sound like a complete moron, I think I have a plan that might make this trade possible.

Go with me on this Broncos Country. I am not a mathematician, but if every fan of the team sent in a dollar with a note saying, “For Colin” how could he resist the opportunity to play for the team. The guy wants his money. Boom! I found his money. That seems like a pretty solid way to fix this strange issue of a player wanting to be paid the money he was given in a contract that he and the team he played for signed.

The issue I am really having here is the idea that Kaepernick should gladly take an almost $5 million pay cut for the honor of playing for the Denver Broncos. Stay with me on this. I am still a lifelong fan, and bleed orange and blue, but my biggest pet peeve about the NFL is teams being able to sign a guy to a contract and then cut him without having to pay him. Last I checked, contracts are binding when us regular folks sign them.

When you talk about millions of dollars, it makes sense that we might think, “oh just take the pay cut and come win a Super Bowl.”

When you talk about millions of dollars, it makes sense that we might think, “oh just take the pay cut and come win a Super Bowl.” It seems like a no brainer, but is it? Honestly put yourself in the shoes of Kaepernick. He earned that contract. Maybe he didn’t play lights out last year, but the talent is there. Is he worth $12 million right now? Not even close, but why would he give that money up? I know I wouldn’t

Pull out that dollar bill you have been saving for a rainy day. Write the note on it and mail it in. How can Kaepernick say no to a message like that?
