The Denver Broncos have shown interest in bringing back former third round draft pick Ronnie Hillman. Will they be able to resign the former starting running back?

Just when everyone has counted out Ronnie Hillman out of Denver, the Broncos seem to have other ideas.

According to Mike Klis of 9 News Denver, the Broncos have shown interest in bringing back running back Hillman to Denver. However, it won’t be an easy task as Hillman has other NFL teams interested in his services.

As of right now, the Broncos have very little salary cap space. They placed the franchise tag on Von Miller, and matched Miami’s offer sheet for C.J. Anderson, which ate up even more money. So, even if Hillman was to come back, it would be in a backup role.

Ronnie Hillman recorded over 800 yards rushing last season and was named the starting running back for 12 games last season due to Anderson’s slow start. Hillman would be named the backup to Anderson in the Super Bowl against the Panthers.

I think as a depth perspective, this would be a solid move by the Broncos. Ronnie Hillman has the speed to compliment Anderson’s bruising running style. Having a speedy change of back for the team would be beneficial.

And as far as the depth is concerned, the Broncos only have Juwan Thompson and Kapri Bibbs on the roster. Thompson has been dealing with injury and Bibbs has shown flashes in the preseason, but has found himself on the practice squad for his first two seasons, minus the Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns last season.

I am very interested to see if this picks up any steam. The team is right now working with the San Francisco 49ers to acquire Colin Kaepernick. Perhaps the trade will free up some money if possible to bring back Hillman.

As much as I have been negative about Ronnie Hillman during his days of fumbling games away early on in his career, he will be key to keep the running game going.
