5. Hello: Peyton Manning retired…?

Um…Hello?

Did you all forget that what we’d all been asking for actually happened?

So many fans were complaining that Peyton Manning wasn’t going to ‘ride off into the sunset’ following the Broncos’ Super Bowl win. Heck, I’d even grown impatient to the length of his decision.

And then came that glorious Sunday morning, before mostly anyone had even woken up and I was sitting on my couch, getting ready for another day, when the news came across Twitter that Manning was going to be announcing his retirement on Monday in Denver.

And Monday was a glorious day. Manning spent four years of his NFL career in Denver compared to 14 with the Indianapolis Colts, and guess who got his first retirement ceremony? Indianapolis will get the sloppy seconds, and the Broncos got to experience the retirement of arguably the greatest QB to ever play the game, giving one of the greatest retirement speeches of all-time in the house that John Elway built.

Manning wasn’t great this past year, and I’m being nice. The Broncos needed the cap relief ($19 million) that his retirement would bring. There’s no question that his retirement, both for its cap implications and historical significance was a great moment of this offseason.
