2. C.J. Anderson’s contract lie

If you haven’t read Brandon Spano’s inside look at the contract of C.J. Anderson, the context of it, and how it all went down, you need to educate yourself.

This is one of the areas where people are being completely ignorant and annoying. Nobody has taken the time to see how well-orchestrated this situation was by the Denver Broncos. Not only did they get a better deal out of this by originally offering Anderson the low round tender, they also allowed him to pursue a big contract a year earlier than he otherwise would have.

Anderson got a $6 million signing bonus that the Broncos and John Elway pro-rated over the course of the four year deal so that his cap hit this season is less than the 2nd round tender so many fans were complaining about Anderson not getting.

The national narrative has been that the Broncos cost themselves this insane amount of money with the ‘mistake’ they made with Anderson, but when you read Spano’s post and get the context, you’ll notice that John Elway and his ELITE group of capologists didn’t make a mistake at all — they came out all the better for it.
