Bilal Powell Is On Broncos Radar
Depth at the running back position will be a must heading into free agency which starts at 2 pm today.
The Denver Broncos are rumored to have their sights set on ex-New York Jets running back, Bilal Powell as reported by Brian Costello.
Powell has been a good all-around back for the Jets in his short term time with the team. He would give the Broncos the right compliment to CJ Anderson or given the starter role if the reigns were handed to him. Powell has accumulated 1,600 yards and 900 yards receiving out of the backfield.
Anderson has received multiple interest in from teams after the low-tender offer was placed to him according to Nicki Jhabvala. The Broncos can match any offer to Anderson, but the deal has to be at the right place for the team. Keeping Anderson in the fold must be a priority if the team wants to keep the depth at the position in tact.
Powell would give the Broncos the spot recently filled by Ronnie Hillman, who is set to be a free agent and will most likely not return. Powell has the vision to excel in the zone blocking scheme head coach Gary Kubiak likes to run. Running people over is not his biggest skillset, but he can throw down the lumber if called upon.
It is unclear if a deal is in place, but the Broncos are interested in the versatile running back who could add a special skillset to the Broncos backfield.
