Broncos Offseason: Malik Jackson headed to Jacksonville
By Tylor Walden
The Denver Broncos have lost a significant piece to the elite defense as Malik Jackson has told Josina Anderson of ESPN that he plans to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In lieu to the three veteran players released by the Denver Broncos today, it has become apparent that the Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed in principle to a new deal.
According to Josina Anderson at ESPN, the soon to be former Denver Broncos defensive end Malik Jackson has agreed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The deal is a six year deal worth roughly $85.5 million dollars which could be a max value of $90 million. That includes $42 million of it guaranteed.
It is a shame to see Jackson leaving Denver. It just seemed like he was interested in staying with the Broncos. But when it came to finances, the Broncos just did not have enough. The Jaguars on the other end, have money to spare.
This is the third straight offseason in which a Bronco has gone to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Zane Beadles and Julius Thomas were the other two.
The one thing that I will miss about Jackson is his abilities to swat balls down when a quarterback threw it and the run defense. Himself and Derek Wolfe really did a lot for that defensive line.
A former fifth round draft pick, Jackson dealt with injuries for a good amount of his first couple years. He really started to branch out in 2014 and had an excellent 2015.
He recorded 45 tackles and five sacks in 2015. Not to mention he recovered a strip sack of Cam Newton from Von Miller that resulted in a touchdown.
Next: Owen Daniels, Aaron Brewer released
It is sad to see him go, but I had that strange feeling that he was not going to be retained. The asking price just got too high. Hopefully he continues to succeed in the NFL.
So, where do the Broncos go when it becomes official on Wednesday? It will be interesting to see what happens from here, but we know that John Elway has a plan.
