The mock drafts are flooding in already, even of the 7-round variety. Erik Lambert of FanSided’s NFLMocks.com put together one such mock, and made some really interesting selections for the Denver Broncos.

Let’s take a look at who he picked…

1. Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State

Reaction: If the Broncos picked Ezekiel Elliott, John Elway would once again ‘win’ the draft. He’s done such a great job of finding value late in the first round, and getting a player of Elliott’s caliber in the latter portion of round one would be highway robbery.

That said, Elway has never picked an offensive player at the top of his draft class. The running back position in Denver could certainly stand to be upgraded, but Lambert also has the Broncos trading away a pick and a player (WR Bennie Fowler) to the Bengals in order to make this selection.

That would be a hefty price to pay, but Elliott was as key of a piece to Ohio State’s CFB playoff title run as anyone, and his running style fits perfectly what the Broncos want to do offensively. He has offensive rookie of the year potential and that kind of impact after losing Peyton Manning (presumably) would be humongous for the Broncos.
