Brick, Mortar, Scrap Part 1: The QBs
By Aric Manthey

#3- Trevor Siemian
2016 Status- Mortar
Explanation: A 7th round pick in last year’s draft, Siemian went from an unknown commodity with an ACL injury coming out of Northwestern to the world’s best 3rd string QB. There’s nothing specifically impressive about his physical or statistical make-up, but he was really impressive in the areas that are required to be a good QB in the NFL.
A natural passing talent, Siemian displayed the arm strength and velocity needed to make all of the necessary throws in
the NFL. He also displayed a cool, confident demeanor with his teammates that gleamed when he was able to produce game winning drives in two of the Broncos preseason games. Now do I think he can develop into “the guy”? Far too early to tell. Do we hand over the reigns to him next year? Not even close. There are two facts that bode well for his chances, though.
Because of his contract status (3 years left on his deal) and uncertainty at the position with the team, I can safely label Siemian as mortar going into the 2016 season. Again, I don’t expect him to win the starting job or look like an all-pro out of nowhere, but he will certainly get his opportunities to compete for the back-up job and possibly the starting job if he has a great off-season and grasps the Broncos offense.
He is the only QB on the roster guaranteed to come back next year and has spent a full year with Kubiak and the offensive staff, so his experience with this coaching staff will certainly give him a good chance to make the 53 man roster and possibly compete for a bigger role in 2016.
