Matt Forte interested in playing for the Denver Broncos?
Would Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte consider playing in Denver with the Broncos in 2016 and beyond? You betcha…
If you’re not playing in the Super Bowl, you’re looking forward to the future. Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears likely has played his last down in Chi-town, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to stop wearing orange and blue. We all know how John Elway loves to make a splash on the free agent market, and despite the fact that Forte is on the wrong side of 30, he could be an effective back for a team with a young quarterback like the Broncos expect to be if Peyton Manning retires.
Obviously this is a team where also a number of backs are expected to carry the load, so Forte wouldn’t have to put the team on his back. A change of scenery could be good for the former 2008 second round draft pick, who mentioned on the “Afternoon Drive” radio show with Mile High Sports that he could see himself playing for the Denver Broncos.
“Yeah, you always want to be on a team with a great defense,” Forte said. “That would definitely be a consideration for me.”
As one of the winningest franchises in the history of the league, the Denver Broncos are a very desirable spot for NFL free agents. Drafted the same year as Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady, Forte has emerged as one of the best all-around tailbacks in the NFL as both a runner and receiver.
With all the talk about the Bears and head coach John Fox poaching some of the Broncos’ talent this offseason, maybe the Broncos can snag one of the Bears’ fan favorites and help them hopefully compete for a repeat Super Bowl championship.
The hosts of the show offered to put a bug in John Elway’s ear for Matt Forte, and he told them to “holler at him for me.”
How could you not like the idea of playing for the Broncos?
As much as the Broncos like to run the football, Forte would be a very good addition in the first place but he also brings the veteran leadership they will need with Peyton Manning probably moving on. It’s a good fit for both sides so long as the Broncos have the cap space to make it happen, and my guess is, Forte isn’t really interested in playing for the big bucks anymore — he wants to win.
