Broncos Fanzone: How the Broncos got to Super Bowl 50
By Tylor Walden
Week 16: vs. Cincinnati Bengals
The Broncos would play their final two regular season games at home. Win one of the final two games and they would be guaranteed a spot in the AFC Playoffs. This next game would not be an easy task as they would play the Bengals.
However, it was a battle between the backups as Osweiler and McCarron would be the starting quarterbacks. It would be the game for the ages as the Broncos would get the win they needed to make the playoffs.
From Mile High Report, I have asked Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann to help us take a look at this game.
MVP of Bengals Game:
“Choosing an MVP is tough because I could make a case for several different people for a variety of reasons, but I’m going to go with Brandon McManus.”
“This may seem an odd choice given that because of McManus, the game had to go to overtime when he missed a 45-yard field goal wide (and I mean wide) left. Even he called it the worst kick he thinks he’s ever kicked.”
“But what was so impressive about McManus was that he came right back in overtime and kicked the game winner from 37 yards out. That takes a short memory and serious confidence, which I loved.”
Favorite Moment:
“My MVP runner-up would be DeMarcus Ware, but I’m going to use him in my favorite moment, which was his fumble recovery in overtime that clinched the win for the Broncos (a fumble recovery, by the way, that shouldn’t have had to happen if the refs had been on their game the play before when Von Miller got a fumble recovery). But hey, our defense is so good, we can have a play taken away and just come back and do it again.”
