The Denver Broncos have promoted 2015 seventh round cornerback Taurean Nixon to the active roster in response to Omar Bolden being placed on injured reserve.

With Omar Bolden out for the remainder of the playoffs due to a MCL sprain in his knee, the Broncos had no choice but to place the special teams star on injured reserve on Tuesday.

Kubiak announced on Monday that he was headed to injured reserve, but a move was not made until Tuesday afternoon. The Broncos have decided to promote 2015 seventh round draft pick Taurean Nixon to the active roster to fill his roster spot.

Nixon, the 251st overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, spent the entire 2015 regular season on the practice squad. With a position such as defensive back so deep, the Broncos decided to let him develop in the ten man practice squad.

This is a smart move by the Broncos for two reasons. The first being that they have a player that knows the playbook. No need for John Elway and company to find help outside the organization. And that is key too because with a huge game coming up on Sunday, it could be difficult for a new face to learn the playbook.

This move also helps with depth at the cornerback position. Chris Harris Jr. stated on Sportscenter that the shoulder feels good and he needs to take it one day at a time. He expects to be good to go for Sunday, but having Nixon on the sideline will help spell Harris Jr. if needed.

This week’s Championship game against the Patriots will be a tough task for the secondary. With players like Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola on the field, the task will be huge for the No. 1 passing defense to contain them.

However, if any defensive unit can, it is them. Wishing Omar Bolden a speedy recovery and ready to see what Taurean Nixon brings to the table. Go Broncos!
