2014- Manning and the Decline

As the new season started, I still had faith in the team. Joining Predominantly Orange a little after the start of the season allowed me to expand and grow as a writer. Hopefully, this year would finally be the time Manning would get that ring.

2014 had a promising start as the Broncos won their first two games and went toe-to-toe with the Seattle Seahawks at Quest Field. The Broncos entered the bye at 2-1 and there seemed to be more positive than anything.

As the season rolled along though, it appeared as if Father Time had caught up to him. A quad injury that was apparently suffered in the Chargers game hampered his abilities for the remaining games of the regular season. And it clearly showed against the Colts in the AFC Divisional Round.

Manning did whatever he could to help, but it was in vein. It just was not there. And with the coaches looking towards other jobs and players not playing up to their potential, it was a very ugly way to go out. None of it was Manning’s fault in my eyes, but sometimes you have to know when it isn’t safe to play hurt.

However, he was able to make history as he broke Brett Farve’s touchdown record in a career. It was quite a special time for Manning and one that will cement his bust into the Hall of Fame someday.

I was not sure what was going to happen to Manning after the 2014 season. I really did not want him to go out like this. In my eyes, I am glad that they were able to figure things out.
