Denver Broncos: Shaq Barrett signs with famed agent Drew Rosenhaus

Denver Broncos OLB Shaq Barrett has left his former representation and signed with famed agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Shaquil Barrett is one of the most improved players in the NFL this season, and with DeMarcus Ware struggling through back injuries, he’s also been one of the most important players on the Denver Broncos.

Apparently, he saw fit at this point to change his representation when it comes to his agent.

The knee-jerk reaction to this news?

How soon before he’s gone?

We have all grown to love Shaq Barrett since he became a member of the Denver Broncos. He has flourished in the absence of DeMarcus Ware, though certainly the pass rush hasn’t been as good in the last three weeks. Barrett is a really good player against the run, rushing the quarterback, and in coverage.

The statement made by Rosenhaus’ agency isn’t inaccurate.

This is just an interesting move if you’re a Broncos fan because we all know that Rosenhaus clients are notorious around the league and he’s so outspoken for his players — I guess that’s why he’s one of the best to ever do it.

Barrett was an undrafted free agent in 2014, so the Broncos will have his rights for at least another year after the 2015 season. He carries a $525,000 cap hit in 2016 and will be an exclusive rights free agent in 2017.

The Broncos have plenty of leverage, especially with Shane Ray on the roster, but this is good posturing for Barrett. He stands to make a lot of money someday if he keeps on the trajectory he’s on, and he’s setting himself up to make the most of this NFL career financially.

A top young outside linebacker, indeed…
