Denver Broncos Have Luxury in Osweiler

The NFL has taken all the Denver Broncos new about Peyton Manning to an extreme, and it needs to stop. Seriously, the best thing for the Denver Broncos is to wait. Given the performance of Brock Osweiler against the Chicago Bears, it is reasonable to think that Manning has time to get healthy, and Gary Kubiak can take the opportunity to see what Brock brings to the team.

Am I wrong here, or is the injury to Manning a blessing in disguise? Peyton is a future Hall of Famer, and undoubtedly the best option for the Broncos if he is healthy, but he is not healthy. Brock could be the future, and why not take a little time to get PFM healthy, AND assess the possibility of Brock being the future in Denver.

How many teams have had this luxury? A big lead in the division, with the playoffs well within their grasps, an aging quarterback who is probably going to retire, and a backup that was drafted with the future in mind getting a chance to show what he can do? Secretly, John Elway and Kubiak must be happy with the way things have played out.

Peyton Manning is the best option for the Denver Broncos at quarterback when he is healthy. That being said, he isn’t.

Had Osweiler underperformed against the Bears, this may not be such a happy place to be sitting. However, he showed he could run the offense that the head coach wants to run. He proved he can look like an NFL quarterback, on the road, in the cold, under pressure from the media, and fans alike. I’m not ready to anoint the kid, but I am ready to say he looks like he can handle the pressure.

This is the bottom line; Peyton Manning is the best option for the Denver Broncos at quarterback when he is healthy. That being said, he isn’t. In this little equation, it sure is nice to have a back up that can step in and carry the team while Manning gets healthy. Whether it is week 13 in San Diego (the weather there is SWEET), or week 15 in Pittsburgh (weather not as sweet), Manning is useless if he isn’t healthy.
