The Denver Broncos were without Peyton Manning. Brock Osweiler got his first start of his career and it came away with a victory.
Brock Osweiler threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns as the Broncos held off a late Bears comeback and won in Solider Field by the final score of 17-15. And for the first time this season, the Denver Broncos did not commit a single turnover. The Broncos forced two Jay Cutler interceptions to help Osweiler win his first game as a starter.
There is so much to talk about in this game. The only issue I saw the entire game was the offensive line. It needs to play much better. With Osweiler under center, the offense looked more relaxed and consistent. But they need to prevent the sacks.
Brock Osweiler made sure he got everyone that could play today involved. He connected with all three of his tight ends and connected with Demaryius Thomas, Cody Latimer, and Jordan Norwood. Not to mention that the running backs got involved in the passing game.
With that being said, I am going to give out my three stars for the game.
Third Star- Aqib Talib
Aqib Talib returned today from his one game suspension for the eye poke incident against the Colts. The reason why I have him here is due to his fourth down stop late in the fourth quarter. Cutler was looking for an open man and could not convert it.
Second Star- Cody Latimer
A lot of individuals, including myself, thought that Cody Latimer was a non-factor in the offense. With the injury to Emmanuel Sanders, Latimer got to start today. And the Osweiler to Latimer connection was gold during a key part of the game.
The biggest connection came in the fourth quarter as Osweiler connected with Latimer for the touchdown that would put the Broncos ahead of the game for good. It was a nice slant route that Osweiler hit Latimer right in the chest for it.
First Star- Brock Osweiler
For his first NFL start, Osweiler looked great. He did not commit a single turnover in the game and threw two touchdown passes. He also passed for 250 yards. So, I had predicted that he would throw for 200 yards and he surpassed it by 50 yards.
And the Birthday Boy got his first win as an NFL starter. It was quite a performance from him today. Now the question is who will start for the Broncos next week? It will be interesting to see, but from what I saw, Osweiler deserves another start.
