Key Matchups

Broncos running backs vs. Bears defense

If the offense is going to do anything to help Brock Osweiler win his first career start, the running game needs to get things going. This might be a good game to do that as the Bears currently rank No. 26 against the run. They give up 118 yards on average.

This could also benefit Osweiler due to his mobility. But for his first start, I would imagine the Broncos will be a run heavy team on Sunday. That means that Anderson and Hillman need to help out their new starter in any way that they can.

Look for Anderson and Hillman to do some damage against the Bears defense in the running game. Hopefully this can be the game that they get back on track after dismissal performances in the past two weeks.

Broncos Defense vs. Bears Offense

The main reason for this key matchup are the coordinators for the two units. Back when he was the offensive coordinator for the Broncos, Adam Gase was leading them on an aggressive, record setting pace. I would not be surprised if that is what Gase does this weekend in order to tire out the Broncos defense.

This could be Wade Phillips’ biggest test yet if that is what Gase decides to do. But I think he will be ready to adjust and be ready for the challenge.

The Broncos defense could be a tough test for Jay Cutler as well. They thrive in putting the pressure on and forcing the quarterback into making some mistakes. If the Broncos defense can force some turnovers and create a short field for Brock Osweiler, the first time starter should have an easier time.
