The Denver Broncos have proven that they are going to be buyers at the trade deadline. They acquired Vernon Davis from the San Francisco 49ers for two sixth round picks and a seventh round. Not a bad exchange.

Now it appears as if the Broncos have asked the Browns for a trade involving eight time Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas. The Broncos discussed trading away a first round draft pick for the left tackle. However, according to the reports, the Browns wanted a little bit more than that.

Those same reports said that the Browns wanted to involve breakout star Shaquil Barrett in the trade talks as well. I am sure that Broncos Country would agree with me in saying that the trade is not worth it. The Broncos considered that was too much and said “No Thanks.”

I honestly would not want John Elway to trade away anyone on the defense that could be a huge asset to the defense. Barrett is one of those players for the Broncos. Plus, the team is thin at the edge rusher position with Miller, Ware, and McCray out there. Do not forget that Shane Ray is out for some time with an MCL injury.

In my opinion, the Ray injury made it that much easier for the Broncos to reject that part of the trade. I would not want the Broncos to be down two edge rushers for the next four weeks or so.

I still believe that the Broncos could still acquire Thomas in a trade, but the Browns have to be willing to be a bit more fair in regards to what they want. I could see a first and a late round draft pick. I mean, I could even see a first round pick and an offensive player (perhaps a lineman) for Thomas.
