Denver Broncos Defense 5-0, the Offense?
By Adam Malnati
The Denver Broncos are on a strange lather, rinse, repeat cycle this season. After beating the Oakland Raiders to move to 5-0, it is apparent that Denver has the best defense in the league. Stop me if you heard this before. Once again, the offense struggled, with Manning continuing to look older than dirt in the pocket, and the running game stalling out before ever even taking off. But that defense though!

Before you start calling me a Manning hater, I do not care about how old he looks. He could hobble out onto the field with a cane and an oxygen tank and I would be just fine with that. The record just keeps skipping back, playing the same old tune (ask your parents kids). The Broncos are doing a great job proving they don’t need any offense.
Brandon McManus has been so good that if Manning can get the offense to the 40 yard line they might as well just put three on the scoreboard. The defense can seemingly handle the rest of the job. How many people out there saw Chris Harris pick of Derek Carr and threw up their hands, shouting, “I knew it!” I did. You probably did, too.
5-0 is exactly where they should be, but it sure would feel good to have an offensive breakout – just to calm the nerves a little.
But let’s stop right there. That warm and fuzzy feeling you get thinking about the Broncos defense can only last so long. Eventually, that should turn into butterflies in your stomach. Look at the schedule. You will find teams like New England, Green Bay, Cincinnati, and Pittsburg (probably with Ben Roethlisberger back).
Imagine losing all four of those games. Denver still makes the playoffs, but how comfortable should we be with this team in the playoffs? How good should we feel about an offense that can not find first gear, let alone get up to highway speeds? When it comes to winning against playoff teams it might be time to get a little nervous.

The Broncos are still my pick to win the Super Bowl. Von Miller et al. have the scariest unit in the entire NFL. No team in the league looks at Denver as a cake walk. There is still a lot of time for the offense to come together. The offensive line is still a work in progress, and Manning must get sharper, but there is still a large amount of talent on the offensive side of the ball. 5-0 is exactly where they should be, but it sure would feel good to have an offensive breakout – just to calm the nerves a little.
