On a Christmas Eve in the County Coliseum, the Broncos and Raiders. It was the first game in Oakland since 1981, when the Broncos shut out the Raiders in a game I have mentioned earlier.
This game would feature three ties and four lead changes throughout the game. The Raiders would open up the scoring and from there it would go back and forth. The Broncos did take a 17-14 lead to the half.
The Raiders would control the third quarter as Billy Joe Hobert and Tim Brown connected twice in the quarter to give the Raiders a 28-17 lead. However, the Broncos would once again provide some Mile High Magic.
Jason Elam would start the magic with a 27 yard field goal. And then, John Elway constructed a huge drive that would end with a four yard touchdown pass to Ed McCaffrey. Needed two more points to tie the game, Elway would take the game in his own hands and run it in for the two point conversion.
The Broncos were tied with the Raiders at 28. But it was not over yet. The Broncos would get one more chance in regulation with the football as they would drive down the field and Elam would convert on the game winning 37-yard field goal with 48 seconds left to give the Broncos a 31-28 win.
