The Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders have both been in the league since the good old AFL days. These two teams have been in the same division for the last 55 years. Currently, the Oakland Raiders hold a 60-49-2 record over the Denver Broncos. The two teams have also met twice in the playoffs with each team earning a win.

Despite the losing record against the Raiders, the Broncos have taken control of the series, especially since Mike Shannahan became head coach in 1995. In fact, the arrival of Shannahan further heighten the AFC West rivalry between the two teams. During his tenure with the Broncos, the team went 21-7 against the Raiders.

It was clear that the majority of the wins for the Raiders came in the 1960s and 1970s, when the Broncos were trying to find themselves. However, the turn of a new millennium has seen the Broncos taking control of the series, winning 20 of the last 30 games since the turn of the millennium.

The Broncos will be going for win number 50 against the Raiders this weekend in Oakland. And it will be a huge game in determining who will be taking an early lead in the race for the AFC West title.

Since the Broncos and Raiders will be facing off twice this season, I will be splitting this top five series into home and away meetings. So, let’s take a look at the top five moments between the Broncos and Raiders that have taken place in both Oakland and Los Angeles.

Honorable Mention- December 6th, 2012

Peyton Manning’s first game at Oakland as a member of the Denver Broncos was a solid win as the Broncos defeated the Raiders 26-13 on Thursday Night Football. Knowshon Moreno recorded 119 yards on 32 attempts in the win.

The reason why I placed this game in the honorable mention section was because it was the first Broncos game I saw at a bar. After having my friends ask me to come to my college bar, I walked over during halftime so that I could not miss a moment of the game.

Despite being the only Broncos fan at the bar, it was nice to see the team getting a win against the Raiders. I even had a friend excited for me when the Broncos won.

Now on to the real list.
