The Denver Broncos have passed every test thrown at them on defense this season. After three weeks, the 3-0 Broncos have been carried by a defense that is being touted as the best in the league. While many have doubted the offense, the feeling in Denver is that the defense will carry the load until Gary Kubiak and Peyton Manning can get the offense clicking.

Now the Broncos will face what could be their toughest test on defense, Adrian Peterson. Peterson has looked like a freight train at times, and runs with speed, power, and probably more than a little anger. The chip on his shoulder was placed there by the NFL, but he has taken out his frustrations about missing an entire season on his opponents.
While the Broncos have thrust fear into the hearts of quarterbacks, running backs have not been so terrified. Yes, the defense has held opposing running backs to just 82 yards per game, but there have been little mistakes that a runner like Peterson will exploit. The line will need discipline in the face of the fury that could be running towards them.
Shutting down the passing game while being able to commit extra guys to the run is key, and the Broncos are well suited to that.
The Minnesota Vikings pose an interesting threat. The sharp contrast between the Detroit Lions of week three and the Vikings of week 4 is interesting. The Lions offense set up nicely for a Broncos defense that gets to the quarterback, and has the best defensive backfield. The Vikings will be happy to keep it on the ground and let their best player carry the load.
Wade Phillips will have this defense ready for a tough battle in the trenches, as the Vikings know their fortunes are directly tied to Peterson’s ability to break tough defenses. Chris Harris and Aqib Talib will be the most important players on the field. Shutting down the passing game while being able to commit extra guys to the run is key, and the Broncos are well suited to that.

Week four will be a statement game. The Broncos defense can tighten their grip on the claim to best defense in the league. Denver can shut down Minnesota’s running game. When the clock goes zeroes, the NFL will be forced to recognize the greatness of this team.
