The most memorable memory in this series’ history was all in part of some Mile High Magic on the road. The Broncos and Vikings met on a cold day in Minnesota.
This game featured two future Super Bowl winning quarterbacks. John Elway (1998,1999) with the Broncos and Brad Johnson (2003, with Tampa Bay) with the Vikings.
The game’s scoring started with a one yard run by Terrell Davis. The Vikings would then score ten unanswered points to take a 10-7 lead. Davis would then add a receiving touchdown when John Elway found him from one yard out to give the Broncos a 14-10 lead going into half time.
In the third quarter, Brad Johnson would find Hall of Famer Cris Carter for an eleven yard touchdown. The touchdown gave the Vikings a 17-14 lead. This score would hold up for quite some time going late into the fourth quarter.
Then the Mile High Magic would take over. John Elway would lead the team down about 65 yards, which ended with a five yard touchdown pass to Ed McCaffrey with just under 30 seconds to go in the game. The game winning touchdown gave the Broncos the 21-17 win over the Vikings.
The key moment of that drive was the gutsy call made by John Elway and the Broncos. Already in field goal range, the Broncos opted to go for it on Fourth and one from the Minnesota 14 yard line. They converted and just three plays later, they would score the game winning touchdown.
