The Denver Broncos capped off a thrilling win against the Houston Texans with some nice defensive play in what has become the theme of the preseason. Wade Phillips’ boys have turned in two excellent performances in consecutive weeks, and allowed just 3 points (though Houston had 10 thanks to a pick-six) on the game.

Overall, this was a bit of a rough game for the Broncos from the start. Peyton Manning’s offense didn’t put a single point on the board, and a 14-10 final score is never very entertaining in a preseason game. But, in the preseason, you’re looking more at individual performances than anything else.

Without watching the game for a 2nd time, here are my five ‘stars’ of the night for the Broncos.

1. Trevor Siemian, QB

Trevor Siemian continues to impress. After seeing him spin the ball in training camp, it was clear the Broncos had a gem on their hands. Siemian is going to make it really tough for the Broncos to not keep three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster.

He led the Broncos on a come from behind victory drive in a nearly flawless two-minute drill. He looked comfortable out there, and wound up completing 7/10 passes with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. It wasn’t perfect, but it was close. Siemian has earned all the reps he gets and you have to figure we’ll see a lot of him in the fourth preseason game.
