Kenny Anunike had quite a showing on Friday against the Seattle Seahawks as he recorded one sack and forced a fumble in the team’s 22-20 win. However, it appears that the injury bug has once again hit him as he was hitting his stride.
After missing two days of practice due to pain and swelling of his knee, Kenny Anunike is set to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his knee on Thursday. While the extent of the knee injury is still undetermined, this is going to seriously set back Kenny Anunike as he was on the fast track to make the roster with his strong offseason and preseason game.
Kenny Anunike was put on injured reserve last year for an elbow injury that he suffered during the final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. During the 2014 camp year, he was impressing as an undrafted free agent.
Anytime I hear about a knee injury on any player, it puts my mind right at either an ACL or MCL injury. Kenny Anunike has history with that injury as he suffered a torn ACL and MCL in 2011 while with the Duke University Blue Devils.
Hopefully, it will be determined that the knee just needs a bit of a break. Kenny Anunike was one player that I have been following closely since last year. I had a feeling that this was going to be his breakout year with the Denver Broncos. Let us just hope that it is nothing serious.
If the procedure shows some significant damage, it would be a huge blow to Kenny Anunike and the Denver Broncos, who are already thin on the defensive line with Derek Wolfe’s suspension. Prayers to Kenny Anunike and hope that it is not as serious as we fear for it to be.
