Broncos Training Camp: UDFA WR Jordan Taylor one to watch?

facebooktwitterreddit

We’re on the doorstep of Denver Broncos training camp, and it appears as though undrafted wide receiver Jordan Taylor is one that we need to keep a close eye on.

In his mailbag column, Broncos analyst Andrew Mason identified Taylor — along with center Dillon Day — as an undrafted player that bears monitoring when the Broncos kick off training camp in just over a week.

“Wide receiver Jordan Taylor caught everything in sight and making plenty of plays downfield. He does a nice job adjusting to the football in flight, and every move he made was smooth and fluid. He’s at the top of the list.”

From another column that Mason wrote, we find out that Taylor had made enough of an impact in practices that it caught the eye of perhaps the most important person on the field. Apparently, Peyton Manning himself had this to say about the possible UDFA Cinderella story…

“He catches everything around him and he’s gone up and made a couple plays on some deep balls, which have stood out.”

The emergence of Taylor would certainly be exciting for the Broncos, but perhaps not entirely unexpected. We have written previously about Taylor both in scouting and projecting possible breakout players. I wrote two months ago that the Broncos’ ‘depth’ at wide receiver isn’t necessarily what it has been in recent years, so Taylor could perhaps stand a chance at not only making an impression but making the final roster.

Our own Dan Armelli wrote just over two months ago about how Taylor could be one of the late round/UDFA rookies that could challenge for a roster spot.

As noted in our post-draft scouting, Taylor has experience putting up big numbers in a run-oriented offense, making big plays downfield. One common thread from all Broncos receivers that we’ve heard this offseason is that there will be an ability to make plays down the field, and if Taylor is already doing well in that area, he might have a significant edge.

This is certainly a situation to monitor and very exciting news for the Broncos’ scouting department.
