DeMarcus Ware Reminds Us What a Physical Marvel He Is
In case it weren’t already cool enough that a living legend in DeMarcus Ware is playing for the Denver Broncos after a Hall of Fame career with the Dallas Cowboys, it’s humbling to see what kind of athlete this guy is, even in the later stages of his career.
Even though his age continues to climb, I’d challenge a majority of the younger players in the league to look anywhere near this jacked…
Ware’s first season in Denver was largely a success individually, with a Pro Bowl appearance and 10 sacks while playing in all 16 games. After an injury-riddled 2013 campaign where he played in just 13 games and racking up six sacks, Denver was a breath of fresh air for Ware.
DeMarcus Ware doesn’t care about double teams…
In the second year of a three-year contract, Ware has brought more to the Broncos than just his on-field contributions. Coming to Denver was a major factor in Von Miller’s maturity as a person. Off the field, there’s not a more stand-up guy than Ware, who has been all class in his NFL career.
Not only that, but he’s one of the hardest workers in the league even at age 33 having accomplished everything he has. In an article from Mike Klis, formerly at The Denver Post, Ware says he’s posting some of the most ridiculous workout numbers of his life.
“I’m doing things right now I could never do before,” Ware said. “I’m benching 315 fifteen times. Power cleaning 405 four or five times. I’m still vertical jumping 38 (inches). My body has matured.”
For a frame of reference, only six defensive linemen or linebackers at this year’s Scouting Combine would be able to top what Ware can leap, and he’s more than 10 years older than most of those guys. That kind of athleticism at his age is remarkable, especially considering the position he plays.
At 6-4, 258 pounds, Ware is an absolute beast. He wasn’t defensive MVP caliber last year, but he was a really solid complement in the Broncos’ pass rush to Von Miller, and coming back from a fully healthy year in the best shape of his life, the Broncos may not have even seen the best of Ware yet.
He seems to be getting better with age.
