The Denver Broncos and Demaryius Thomas are looking to come to terms with a long term deal before the July 15th deadline. So far, both sides have not come to a general consensus. Apparently, trying to have a conversation with the Dallas Cowboys about contracts is a huge no-no.
Adam Schefter has reported that the NFLPA is placing the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys under investigation for collusion. The Player’s Association is looking into if the two teams in question contacted each other on the contract of Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant. According to the NFLPA, such contact is prohibited.
Because Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant are about on the same terms as far as production at the wide out position, it would be understandable why the two sides would talk about the wide outs. But the NFLPA prohibits that. And the reason it is prohibited is due to the fact that both the Broncos and Cowboys could cap the market for wide receivers.
For those who do not know the definition of collusion, it short terms it defines a secret cooperation in order to cheat or deceive others.
If the Broncos are found to be part of this collusion involving Demaryius Thomas, the team is going to be in a lot of hot water. Fixing the cap in order to save money is not good and it would not be fair to other teams that, in the future, need to figure out how much to pay a top-tier wide receiver. A good example is Julio Jones, who is going into the final year of his contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
While both Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant are looking to holdout if a deal is not reached, this situation could perhaps halt any talks that either team could have had for their star wide receivers.
This will be a situation to keep an eye out for as the July 15th deadline nears.
