Dez Bryant Deal Could Push Broncos, Demaryius Thomas

If these rumors are true and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is going to be able to sign a long-term deal, possibly sometime this week, it could expedite the process for the Denver Broncos and Demaryius Thomas.

This is exciting news for Broncos fans who are sick of waiting and wondering if a long-term deal with Demaryius Thomas will get signed. If the Cowboys sign Dez Bryant to a long-term contract, it would behoove the Broncos to copy and paste the language of the deal and send it over to Thomas’ agent.

All humor aside, this could legitimately help the Broncos get a deal done with their franchise player before the July 15th deadline, otherwise they will likely lose him in free agency in 2016, because they’re not going to be letting go of Von Miller.

Bryant, unlike Thomas, has threatened to sit out games, apparently, though no one really believes he would actually do that. The Cowboys and Bryant — like Thomas and the Broncos — are motivated to get a deal done.

Bryant, like Thomas, has proven since being drafted in 2010 that he is one of the best five receivers in the NFL right now, a dominant playmaker that is worth his weight in gold. The Cowboys realize that, and they might end up helping the Broncos in their pursuit of signing a franchise player at the wide receiver position.

We all know both the Cowboys and Broncos want their star receivers around long-term, it’s just a matter of how they are going to get there and what kind of guaranteed money is going to be thrown around.

Just as a heads up, it could be a lot.

I wrote earlier on Monday about the importance of the Broncos getting a long-term deal done with Thomas. My tune has changed a bit from earlier this offseason, because I finally realized that John Elway and the Denver front office have been letting all the talented young in-house free agents walk. To this point, it’s worked out. He upgraded on Eric Decker by adding Emmanuel Sanders at about half the price. He replaced Knowshon Moreno with in-house options at running back and wound up with a Pro Bowler in C.J. Anderson.

It’s a risky play, but Elway has done it well.

This time around, however, he can’t afford to play with fire. He needs to re-sign Thomas, one of the best receivers in the NFL today. The Dez Bryant deal could push things to a point where they can finally get pen to paper.
