4. Can John Elway close the deal on Demaryius Thomas?

July 15th is the deadline for a deal, so perhaps we’ll be hearing of the progress — or lack thereof — of a new deal for Demaryius Thomas in the coming days/weeks.

Can John Elway close the deal?

This is a matter of whether or not the Broncos actually want to make Thomas one of the highest paid receivers in the league and one of the highest paid players in general. He’s proven that he’s at least a top three or four receiver in the league, but is having one of those going to win you titles over the long run? Can the Broncos afford it and still build a championship roster around him?

Those are questions that have all been discussed behind closed doors in all likelihood, and the push to retain Thomas will be on in full force if the Broncos decide he’s that important to their future.
