Emmanuel Sanders Should Distance From Returning

Emmanuel Sanders has been a fan favorite for Broncos Country since his arrival last year. Most have titled him with his excellent first year with the team by using the phrase “Eric who?” I can completely understand that Emmanuel Sanders wants to help out any way he can, but some advice is that he does not take part in returning punts.

Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis did not stray away from the idea of having Emmanuel Sanders on special teams to return punts. After the last day of mini camp, DeCamillis met with the media and talked about special teams and the thought of having Emmanuel Sanders back handling punt returns.

“He [Sanders] has done a good job back there catching them also when we’ve got him back there, so its been good and productive so far.”

However, it was pointed out that there is a risk in having a starting player taking special teams reps as well. When asked about Emmanuel Sanders filling the punt returner role as a starter, Joe DeCamillis figured that it came to what Gary Kubiak thought.

“That’s something we have to talk about as we go through it. It’s in Coach Kubiak’s wheelhouse.”

I do not believe Emmanuel Sanders is the answer as a punt returner. Not even as a kick returner. In fact, Emmanuel Sanders should not be returning kicks at all. This is to prevent any type of injury he may experience during the returning game. I do not need to say that Emmanuel Sanders is a huge part to the Denver Broncos offense, so having him returning any kind of special teams kicks should be out of the question and only in an extreme emergency.

Another reason is that I have full confidence in Jordan Norwood’s ability to return back from his ACL injury and become that returner the Denver Broncos have been looking for since Trindon Holliday left.

For the most part, I can agree with anyone else returning. But having a starter returning kicks should be out of the question.
