Brock Osweiler is ready to play. Not only that, I think he’s ready to start. I can’t remember a quarterback drafted as high as Brock that had to wait as long as he has to get a starting opportunity in the NFL, and the Broncos’ actions this offseason indicate to me that he is going to be part of the future of this organization as well, despite not having started a single game going into his contract year.

“He has a lot more command,” said C.J. Anderson. “He wants to go out there and play. He’s been confident and comfortable, and he knows what he can do. He trusts his ability.”

Osweiler’s been getting a lot more reps at OTAs so far this offseason, and the early word back is very positive. When the Broncos took Osweiler out of Arizona State, he was a 21-year old gunslinger known mostly for being 6-foot-8 rather than his ability to rifle the football down the field.

But this guy has a cannon, and he’s very athletic for his size.

Personally, I hope Osweiler gets a few starts this year. If the Broncos have plans for him as the future of the organization, they need to see what they have in a regular season setting. If Manning gets hurt again, there’ll be no sense in keeping him on the field while injured of Osweiler is capable of making a couple of starts.

This is a big year for Osweiler. The Broncos will look to extend his contract at some point in the next year, and by this point next offseason, it’s likely we’ll be talking about him as the starting QB of this team, hopefully coming off of a Super Bowl win.
