Denver Broncos rookie first round pick Shane Ray is making progress. He’s got a helmet on at Broncos OTAs and is working in drills.
It’s great to read that Ray is out on the field, now we need to see it.
Ray, the team’s first round pick back in late April, suffered a toe injury in the Missouri Bowl game this past year. He has been working through the injury to keep his draft stock up, and hadn’t taken proper time to recover. The Broncos have allowed him that and now he’s working his way back to the practice field.
As a side note to this exciting news, I was talking earlier today on the site about how important it is going to be for the Broncos to lock in defensive front seven weapons Von Miller and Malik Jackson either prior to this season or next offseason. They have such a good front seven, led by those two younger veterans, and adding Ray into the mix gives them an absolutely deadly rotation at the edge rushing positions.
With Miller, Ware, Malik Jackson, and Shane Ray, the Broncos aren’t going to be able to be stopped up front especially with Wade Phillips calling the shots. The question here is what package they choose to put Ray in, and whether or not his presence on the field means someone else on that list has to come off.
And don’t worry, I’ve not forgotten about Derek Wolfe, Sly Williams, or the others. They are all going to be big factors as well.
This is a great first step to getting Ray back in the fold for the Broncos, and I think we’ll see a lot of creativity on the field.
