Ryan Harris Brings Elder Presence to Broncos Line

The injury to left tackle brought about an opportunity for the Denver Broncos to bring in a familiar face on the offensive line in 2007 third round pick Ryan Harris, who most recently started 15 games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014.

Harris was originally drafted by the Broncos, and he and his family have made their home in Denver. He brings a veteran presence to the unit and a lot of NFL experience to help bring along some of the Broncos’ young players, as well as provide a capable starting option and nice depth for a unit with plenty of question marks here in the latter portion of May.

He feels like his experience in the NFL will be an invaluable addition to the Broncos.

“This will be my 9th year going into the NFL, so I have a breadth of knowledge and experience in both starting games and preparation,” Harris said. “I think anytime you can add experience and knowledge like that it’s a good thing.”

“I just have a tremendous familiarity with everything that we’ll be doing. Of course it’s always different year-to-year, but again that familiarity will really help me contribute and hopefully quickly.”

Harris started on a Chiefs team that nearly made the playoffs last season, and he’s excited to be able to go home and sleep at night while working for a team that can win a championship.

“The reason we’re in this league is to compete. Especially in this building to compete for a championship, so I look forward to doing both.”

Harris made an interesting comment in the video above. He said the Broncos reached out to him a couple of weeks ago, which obviously means the Broncos have been looking to add depth to the tackle position regardless of the Clady injury. This just streamlined that process.

Last season, Harris graded out as the 38th best tackle in the NFL last season, three spots ahead of Clady. He’s certainly a capable starter and a player who is also a good fit in the zone blocking scheme.
