Two days ago, I wrote a piece on how the Broncos should release Chris Clark because of his inconstancy and the Broncos drafting new tackles Michael Schofield in 2014 and Ty Sambrailo in 2015. However, if Chris Clark has any chance of staying with the Broncos and shaking off the 2014 season, this is the year to do it.
Broncos Country was hit with bad news when it was revealed Ryan Clady tore his ACL during the first day of Broncos organized team activities on Wednesday. The news did not break until Thursday afternoon, first by Adam Schefter and Jeff Legwold.
Broncos Country is all over the place with the injury to Ryan Clady. Even though I have called for Chris Clark’s head just a couple days prior to the writing of this article, this could be a huge opportunity for Chris Clark to shake off the 2014 demons and prevail and succeed at the left tackle position in 2015.
When Ryan Clady went down in 2013 with the Lisfranc injury in his foot, Chris Clark took over the left tackle position and excelled in almost every game. The only game I saw that he struggled heavily was the Indianapolis Colts game when he was went up against Robert Mathis.
Chris Clark is normally a left tackle, so moving him there will allow him to engage in his natural position. This should allow Chris Clark to excel during the 2015 season. He did a great job at the position when he helped the Broncos obtain an AFC Championship. Even Sayre states at how solid he was a left tackle in 2013.
Do not panic Broncos Country. While the loss of Ryan Clady will be a tough pill to swallow, Chris Clark can fill in the void. He will look to compete with Ryan Harris, who signed with the Broncos today. But no need to fear Broncos Country. I have stated that Chris Clark is not a great right tackle, but moving him to left could benefit both the Broncos and Clark. Time for Chris Clark to step up and perhaps fill in the role once again at left tackle.
