5th round CB Lorenzo Doss (5’10 182), Tulane

2014 stats: 48 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 sack

Games evaluate: Connecticut, Cincinnati

Strengths: Has very quick feet and fluid hips to turn and run with his man. Is quick, but also fast and able to cover ground in a hurry. Showed great balls skills with 15 career interceptions in three years. Flashes good instincts in coming off his man to play the ball in the air. Shows the ability to break hard on the ball and make a play.

Weaknesses: Rarely pressed at the LOS. Can get too handsy down the field. Poor/soft run defender. Plays pretty conservatively in the run game, opting for the ball carrier to come to him in all instances. Doesn’t always wrap up completely, optioning to hit with his shoulder.

Roster outlook: Out of the three prospects that I talk about, Doss might have the least chance to make the roster. He has the athletic potential for sure, but he’s raw. He also needs to fill out his frame a little more. Add to that the Broncos are pretty deep as far as pure quantity goes at the position. It’s probable they keep six cornerbacks on the roster, depending on what they do with Bradley Roby, Omar Bolden, and Kayvon Webster. (For what it’s worth, Bolden is the only one listed as a safety on the Broncos website. But it will be up to the new staff to decide where he’ll play going forward.) Tony Carter’s 5th spot will probably be the one in question and he’ll have to fend off the rookie Doss to keep that spot. At worst, Doss will be stashed on the practice squad because of his physical gifts.
