For one week during the preseason, the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers are going to get acquainted with each other well.
The team announced that they would be hosting the San Francisco 49ers at Dove Valley for shared practice during the preseason. The Broncos did this last year when they hosted the Houston Texans for a joint practice session a few days prior to their preseason matchup, which was won by the Texans 18-17.
Both of these teams have a lot of storylines leading up to the beginning of the regular season. The Denver Broncos will have first year head coach Gary Kubiak at the helm while the San Francisco 49ers will begin the post-Harbaugh era with Jim Tomsula, the longtime defensive line coach. Peyton Manning sharing the same field with Colin Kaepernick should draw quite a bit of media attention.
These two teams squared off last year during both the preseason and the regular season. Both meetings were won by the Broncos in convincing fashion. A 34-0 shutout in the 49ers first ever game in Levi’s Stadium during the preseason and then a 42-17 beatdown during Week 7 of the 2014 season, a game in which Peyton Manning passed Brett Farve for the most passing touchdowns in a career.
With the new facilities at Dove Valley completed, it figures to be quite an entertaining week for both franchises. The 49ers will arrive in Dove Valley a bit early before their joint practices on August 26th and 27th before the two teams square off for the real deal on August 29th.
The preseason tilt will be the third game for both teams, so this will be a huge dress rehearsal for both Denver and San Francisco. Going up against opposing competition other than teammates will figure to push the players to be at their best to make one of the final roster spots.
