With the NFL Draft over, Chris Myers is one of the more well known centers out in the league who is still without a job. I have no idea what is taking the Denver Broncos so long to give him a call, especially now.
During the NFL Draft, the Broncos traded Manny Ramirez to the Detroit Lions in order to move up five spots in the first round to draft Shane Ray. Now the Broncos have Gino Gradkowski, Max Garcia, and Matt Paradis on the roster listed as centers. The situation does not look good.
Gino Gradkowski is a solid player, but he has been beaten out of the starting center job before. I’m interested to see how he performs, but we will not know until about the time the season starts. And Max Garcia and Matt Paradis have not played a snap in the NFL yet. Matt Paradis was drafted in the sixth round of last year’s draft and spent all season on the practice squad, so it remains to be seen how he developed during his time there. Of course Max Garcia was just drafted last week, so we know he will take his time to develop.
Chris Myers would be a perfect fit for the Broncos for many reasons. He has played for the Broncos before, so he is quite familiar with them. He has also worked in Gary Kubiak’s offense before, so his familiarity with the zone blocking scheme would help the Broncos offense greatly. But I believe that Chris Myers’ biggest benefit to the team would be to mentor the younger centers Matt Paradis and Max Garcia. Teaching them the offense could help them as they look to become the centers of the future.
Chris Myers has been dubbed as one of the best, if not the best, center in the league at this time. His contribution to the success of the Houston Texans should be a huge reason teams would be calling him up to anchor the offensive line. No one has given him a contract yet, and this would be an ideal situation for the Broncos given their need at the center position.
Even if they sign him for only one year, it could make all the difference in the world.
