With all the moves the Denver Broncos made during NFL Draft weekend, it was only a matter of time when the team would make some roster cuts to accumulate those moves. Paul Cornick and Jeremy Kelley were the first players to receive the ax.

The Broncos announced on Monday that they have waived both offensive lineman Paul Cornick and wide receiver Jeremy Kelley from the roster. With the Broncos drafting nine players and signing another nine as undrafted free agents, it was apparent that they were going to begin the process of clearing up roster space.

Jeremy Kelley comes as no surprise to me. Kelley was signed to a future’s contract on December 29th of last year and with the large amount of wide outs on the roster, it was clear that it was going to be a long shot for him to even make it to training camp. Jeremy Kelley has been in and out of the NFL, most notability playing in the Arena Football League with the San Jose Sabercats. Kelley will most likely be playing football at the arena level this summer in hopes that he can draw interest from an NFL team during his time with the Sabercats.

Paul Cornick was somewhat of a surprise to me, but makes sense in the long run due to not fitting in the zone blocking scheme that the Broncos are running according to Mike Klis.

Paul Cornick played in 12 games during the 2014 season, including six where he was the starter. During his time, I saw that having him on the line really helped in the running game for C.J. Anderson. He was a nice addition to the running game as Paul Cornick would line up in the tight end spot and block during the running game.

With these roster moves, the Broncos are now at 89 players on the roster. There is going to be a lot more roster moves during the dog days of summer. The team can now add one more player to make the roster at 90.

Broncos Country wishes you farewell Paul Cornick and Jeremy Kelley.
