Mike Mayock Mock Draft: Broncos Get OT Jake Fisher
In NFL Network NFL Draft guru Mike Mayock’s annual NFL mock draft, the Denver Broncos selected Oregon offensive tackle Jake Fisher, a player that is on their radar and one that intrigues them, according to reports.
There have been reports emerging that Fisher would be coveted by the Cincinnati Bengals, who pick 21st this year, but in this scenario, he falls to the Broncos.
Consequently, so did Cedric Ogbuehi, who has been a major topic of discussion of late. Do not be surprised if either guy are actually the Broncos’ first round draft pick.
Fisher is a quick offensive tackle with excellent athletic ability and the ideal skill set to play in a zone blocking scheme. The offense at Oregon was fast-paced, and Fisher showed the type of explosiveness and athleticism that translate well to either left or tight tackle in the NFL, and he can also play guard in my opinion.
He needs to add some weight to his frame, but Fisher has the whole package in terms of what you look for in the measurable categories, and the only thing he really needs to fix are the penalties. He was one of the most penalized tackles in this draft class last season.
This is a player I really like, and I would hope that if he’s on the board, the Broncos would seriously consider taking him. I know he’s got to be among the top offensive tackle prospects on their board, and taking this kind of player could allow Michael Schofield to stay at right tackle while putting Fisher at the left guard spot. The Broncos need help in both areas.
