The Denver Broncos are looking to improve their offensive line after an up and down 2014 season. One player on that line who’s job is safe is Louis Vasquez.
During media interviews on Wednesday, Louis Vasquez made it clear to everyone out their in regards to his position on the offensive line. Louis Vasquez will be making his return to the right guard position, the position in which he was an all-pro during the Super Bowl run in 2013.
Most of us already knew that this would be crystal clear when the offseason began. Due to so many other issues, Louis Vasquez was moved down to right tackle due to issues with the center position. Now that he has returned to the right guard position, he can begin learning the zone-blocking scheme.
Back in 2013, Louis Vasquez was able to prove to the Broncos why they made such a great investment in the right guard. He earned All-Pro honors in 2013 after not allowing a single sack. He has become one of the better offensive linemen for the Denver Broncos.
Louis Vasquez did not sugar coat the fact that it was a difficult transition to right tackle halfway through the 2014 season. He stated that it was difficult to gel as a unit and he struggled a little bit. As Robert Mays of Grantland points out, moving Louis Vasquez to right tackle actually hurt the team more than helped. And he states two reasons why, downgrading at the right guard position and not getting the most out of Louis Vasquez.
Getting him back to right guard before learning this new offense from Gary Kubiak and Rick Dennison was ideal for Louis Vasquez. Both of these men want to get the best out of Louis Vasquez and rightfully so moved him to right guard. Now we will get to see the full abilities of Louis Vasquez, hopefully similar to the 2013 numbers he put up. Now it all comes down to the pieces around him.
