David Cobb (5’11 229), Minnesota

2014 stats: 1,626 rushing yards, 13 rushing TDs, 16 receptions, 162 receiving yards

Games Evaluated: @ Michigan, @ Nebraska, @ Wisconsin, Missouri

-Gets a good push off his plant leg to help him cut up field quickly when he’s scanning the line laterally.

-Can make quick and sudden cuts to change direction behind the line of scrimmage.

-Had to avoid a lot of tackles at Minnesota and he handled it beautifully; he has great balance. At times it looked like he got bored breaking would-be-tacklers, looking for his next obstacle or piece of field to get to.

-Had 34 career receptions. Has the potential to be a great tool as a receiving back, just needs the opportunity. Made a heck of a diving catch in his bowl game against Missouri that was called back because he stepped out of bounds first.

-Can work through heavy traffic because of his great balance and vision.

-Doesn’t have a ton of pop off his feet so it’s difficult for him to escape defenders this way in the open field.

-Has functional speed that goes great with his other skills. Won’t win many leg races, but he can motor.

-Patience is usually good. Only a few times where he could’ve hit a better, late developing lane.

-Is underwhelming in pass protection. Surprisingly will get blown back and rarely sustains rushers. Doesn’t move his feet. Seemed like half the time he would just cut the rusher.

-10 fumbles in 35 games played.

OVERVIEW: Cobb has very good size and has the power to go with it. He shows good leg drive to finish off plays on a positive note. He also has good balance, which he needed behind his porous offensive line. He’s not an open field savant, but has gotten a lot of practice with working through traffic; and he’s good at it. He’ll need to work on his pass blocking as well, but should be a three-down back at the pro level.

THREE WORDS: Balance, vision, wiggle

PROJECTION: 2nd round
