Broncos Hosting Sleeper WR Tre McBride for Visit

The Denver Broncos might have one of the best looking groups of receivers and tight ends in the NFL on paper, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to open things up for a bit of competition.

Nor are they going to neglect one of the deepest positions in this year’s draft because they have a roster full of wide receivers. According to the Denver Post, the Broncos are hosting William & Mary wide receiver Tre’ McBride for a pre-draft visit, one of the many rumored visits to come out in the last week.

McBride was an ultra-productive receiver and is considered one of the best small school prospects in this year’s draft with the ability to crack the third round after a strong East-West Shrine game and scouting combine performance.

Measurables

McBride has intriguing size and it was a clear advantage for him at college. He used his body to dominate defenders, going up and getting footballs he had no business getting.

At the Combine, McBride tested out really well athletically, but you don’t always see it on tape. He doesn’t use his physical prowess at a lower level of competition to consistently separate and generally ‘look’ like an NFL receiver. He is going to need plenty of overall seasoning, but make no mistake — this is a talented football player.

Because of his athletic ability, there’s not really a place where the QB at William & Mary could throw the ball and McBride couldn’t catch it. He has an outstanding ‘catch radius’ where QBs can get him the ball. Another big plus to his game is the fact that he could return kicks, which will be important if he comes to the Broncos because they have an opening at both KR and PR unless they feel Omar Bolden is the guy at KR moving forward.

Fit With Broncos

You can never have too many good playmakers offensively. The Broncos aren’t in the market for a top receiver in their offense, nor are they in the market for a two or three. They will be looking for depth and guys that can contribute in the future while offering upside on special teams, which is pretty much exactly how McBride would fit in.
