Broncos Sign OL Shelley Smith

Shelley Smith was not exactly welcomed by all fans as an exciting addition to the offensive line, but I don’t know if the Broncos’ intent was to have him come in and be penned in as a starter.

Denver got Smith on a very reasonable contract, and they were vying with teams like Seattle and Atlanta for his services, both teams that employ versions of a zone blocking scheme.

The Broncos have a connection to Smith in that he was drafted by Kubiak’s Texans back in 2011, and he’ll serve as a backup guard or center if the need arises. There is also potential for him to be a starter at the left guard position if the Broncos don’t find the right solution there.
