Broncos Franchise Tag WR Demaryius Thomas

This was a move that was absolutely necessary for the Broncos as they continue to progress toward making Demaryius Thomas one of the highest paid receivers in the league annually.

This is an especially large move for Denver because it took away $13 million in cap space and ensures their best offensive weapon will be back for another season. The Broncos chose Demaryius over Julius for obvious reasons, as DT has evolved into one of the league’s elite receivers with a few Pro Bowl seasons now under his belt.

The former 2010 first round pick was drafted out of Georgia Tech with the expectation that his raw route running ability would cause him to be a project, but the addition of Peyton Manning caused Thomas to explode onto the scene in 2012 and he hasn’t looked back.

The Broncos hope to get a long term deal for DT, and this was just the first step in the process, which has been ongoing for almost a year now.
