Report: Broncos Among Teams “In” on Florida’s D.J. Humphries

The 2015 NFL Draft rumor mill is already swirling, and picking at No. 28 in the first round, there are going to be way too many options for the Broncos in the first round for us to possibly narrow it down to an exact science. Still, it’s fun to look at all the options, and one player who has to be considered with the pick is Florida’s D.J. Humphries, who is quickly ascending into the top 32 of many big boards.

Miller’s report comes just a day after I posted this mock draft over at NFLMocks.com, where I selected Humphries for the Broncos in the first round. Humphries, who has had injury issues in the past, apparently checked into the Combine at 307 pounds after most sites projected he was in the 285-295 range.

It’s a pretty significant increase for him, all things considered, and it’s a really good number for him to be at. Especially so, since Humphries maintains he’s now faster than he was at his playing weight.

This is a player who has excellent athleticism and the upside to play both right and left tackle at the next level. For the Broncos, he would likely start off as a right tackle, which would leave the situation of Michael Schofield in serious question. Regardless of what the Broncos feel about Schofield, they have to be willing to take the best player at No. 28 and if that happens to be Humphries, they need to do it.

This is a guy who can move really well for his size, who would be a great fit in the zone blocking scheme. He was a top recruit out of high school and has developed into a really nice player. If Denver is “in” on Humphries he has to be considered a legitimate candidate for their first round pick.
