Demaryius Thomas Could Impact Other Free Agents

Demaryius Thomas is one of the best wide outs in the league today. If something between him and the Denver Broncos is not worked out by March 10, perhaps even sooner, Demaryius Thomas will hit the market.

Perhaps the most important pending free agent on the Denver Broncos roster, Demaryius Thomas has a lot of options ahead of him during the offseason. There is no reasonable scenario that I see in which the Denver Broncos do not bring him back. He is one of the best offensive players on the roster and letting him go would be a mistake beyond imaginable.

However, depending on what the Broncos decide to do regarding Demaryius Thomas, it will impact what happens with the other free agents. The best case scenario for the pending free agents would be that the two sides come to a deal long term. If the Broncos decide not to franchise tag him, it would benefit any of the other free agents on the Denver Broncos roster.

But if the Broncos decide to franchise tag Demaryius Thomas, that could spell trouble for the rest of the Broncos free agents. If he was to be tagged, that could mean that a Broncos free agent most likely will not come back. Even though some believe that Demaryius Thomas would be the only option to receive the tag, I could see the Broncos using it on any of their other free agents. However, that can only happen if the Broncos can agree long term.

The future for many pending free agents could come down to how talks between John Elway and Demaryius Thomas go. But make no mistake, he is perhaps the most important player for the Denver Broncos. And as the name franchise tag suggests, it is to keep a player who has a lot of value for how successful the franchise would be. Demaryius Thomas does indeed fit that bill. Franchise tagging him would be a good thing. However, what they decide to do could impact the Broncos team in 2015.
