When Will Broncos Greats Be Recognized?

Former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis did not get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Upon hearing the news, I immediately started looking up Jerome Bettis’s career stats, and Curtis Martin, and Marshal Faulk. I was going to write a scathing article, but about halfway through I stopped.

More from Broncos News

I stopped and realized that my plan was to try to make Davis look more deserving by tearing down other Hall of Fame running backs, which would change nothing. There is no point in trying to prove that Davis is just as good as his contemporaries. Everyone who know football already knows that. Here is the only thing that can be said about Davis not getting in to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, typical.

Davis is not the first deserving Bronco to be snubbed by this moronic group of writers.

As Bronco fans, we have become accustomed to the rejection that comes with each new class of the Hall. The Broncos are one of the most successful franchises since entering the league, but for some reason, the writers do not see greatness. It angers fans in Denver, as well it should, but let us send our anger where it belongs. Not the players that get in, but the morons who can not get it right.

This has been happening to players from the Broncos organization ever since they started being eligible to make it to the Hall of Fame. Only John Elway, Gary Zimmerman, Shannon Sharpe, and Little have been called to the Hall of Fame. Davis is not the first deserving Bronco to be snubbed by this moronic group of writers.

  • This all starts with Randy Gradishar. In the 1970s and 1980s, Randy Gradishar was the anchor of the Orange Crush defense. He was one of the top linebackers of his era, and has been largely ignored by Hall of Fame voters. Gradishar is one of the top 10 linebackers in the history of the game, but he played in Denver, so he won’t get in.

Louis Wright is another member of the vaunted Orange Crush defense that has been forgotten by time. Wright was the original “Cover Corner.” He took away half of the field, and was one of the best corner backs of his era. He played in Denver, so he won’t get in.

Guys like Steve Atwater, Rod Smith, Karl Mecklenburg, Tom Nalen, Tom Jackson, and Rich “Tombstone” Jackson will never get the consideration they deserve, but it has nothing to do with their playing ability, and everything to do with the market they played in. Denver gets little respect from the old guard of NFL sports writers, and it has tainted the Hall of Fame for Bronco fans everywhere.

The fact is, fans of every team can complain about players that haven’t got in, but Denver seems to be disproportionately forgotten in the minds of the football writers. I can never truly think of the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a true Hall of Fame, as there are too many guys left out that are deserving of a call to get in. Congratulations to the players who made it, but once again, the writers got it wrong.
